TYLER - The SFA football team went through a range of emotions during their game with Incarnate Word.
They were thrilled with a great start.
They were disappointed when the Cardinals came back to take the lead.
And they were on cloud 9 when they won the game on a play that has to be seen to be believed.
On the final play of the game, SFA safety Alize Ward intercepted a pass as time ran out and he returned it 70 yards for a touchdown as time expired. That gave the Jacks a miraculous 37-31 win, their first win of the young season.
For head coach Clint Conque, even a few days later, it's tough to believe what actually happened.
Conque says, "It really didn't sink it and it's taken a couple of days, but you move on and, we're 1-0 in conference and certainly looking forward to the opportunity to get back to work this week."
This is the first win of the year for a team full of young players. And the coaching staff hopes that this win will lead the Lumberjacks to bigger and better things as the season goes on.
Conque says, "Getting a win in that dramatic a fashion after you played so well early, fell behind, and then found a way to win, speaks volumes, I think, to their character and their competitiveness."
SFA will be back in action this Saturday when they play at Abilene Christian.
