LONGVIEW - The Spring Hill football team is off to one of their best starts in a decade. The last two seasons, the Panthers won a total of four games. They have already achieved that total through the first four games of this season.
“The major difference is the knowledge that our kids have in our offense and our defense,” head coach Kelly Mercer stated, “We’re executing on both sides in a rate we haven’t been able to do in the last couple years.”
Senior safety Jace Tiller added, “It means a lot to me to see these guys enjoy some winning times.”
Coach Mercer is in the midst of his third season with the Panthers, and he acknowledges that it took time to build success at Spring Hill. “What we’re seeing this year is a result of two and a half years worth of hard work. It doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s all the kids buying in and believing in what we’re doing,” coach Mercer explained.
While the Panthers are enjoying their success for now, there’s still one objective in mind this year. “I’d just like to make the playoffs, and take it as far as I can from there,” stated senior wide receiver Ryan Willis.
Next up, Spring Hill takes on Huntington on Friday at 7:00 PM.
