NACOGDOCHES - Two of the winningest active NCAA volleyball coaches met Tuesday night, before an electric crowd at Central Heights High School.

It was a special evening because it featured two head coaches with over 30 years of experience. Debbie Humphreys is currently in her 30th season as head coach of the Ladyjacks. “I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by a lot of great players and staff,” Humphreys stated, “we’ve been able to put some great things together at S-F-A.” Humphreys is just three wins away from 650 career victories.

The opposing coach, Karen Chisum, has been the head coach at Texas State for 38 years. Between the both of them; nearly 1,500 combined victories. Despite the years of competing against each other, there is a mutual respect between the two. “We’re opponents on the court,” Chisum explained, “but we’re friends and colleagues off the court.”

This was a tough evening for the Ladyjacks, as the Bobcats put an end to SFA’s 11 game winning streak.

But the loss doesn’t overshadow all the success Humphreys has experienced at SFA. After the match, she stated “I’ve never dreamed that this would be my place, but it’s been wonderful. I’m very thankful to SFA for giving me the opportunity.”
