LONGVIEW - Longview Lobo football players visited Longview ISD elementary schools to promote National Bully Prevention month.
The football team discussed what bullying is and the effects it has on lives.
"Bullying starts to effect children at a very early age and they do not realize the damage it can do to someone,” Longview ISD Communications Officer Sarah LeBus said. “Many cuts go deep and remain with a person into adulthood and shape who they are. It is important for students to understand not only the effect bullying has on others, but also how to stand up for others that are bullied."
School district officials asked Texas Governor Gregg Abbott for a proclamation and received it. Abbott proclaimed October 2016 Bullying Prevention month.
Oct. 19 is Unity Day for Longview ISD. Each campus is encouraged to wear orange and will participate in activities to address bullying throughout the month.
