Below are brief definitions of some of the terms you may discuss with your physician.

  1. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) -
  2. A normal benign enlargement of the prostate that occurs as a natural process of aging in men.
  3. Erectile Dysfunction (Impotence) -
  4. Persistent inability to obtain and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse.
  5. Hematuria -
  6. Blood in the urine.
  7. Incontinence -
  8. Involuntary loss of urine. Leakage of urine at inappropriate times.
  9. Infertility -
  10. Inability to achieve a pregnancy resulting in a live birth after one year of unprotected intercourse.
  11. Kidney Stones -
  12. Mineral crystals that separate from the urine and build-up on the inner surfaces of the kidney.
  13. Pediatric Urology -
  14. Specialized assessment, diagnosis and management of children with disorders that affect the structure and function of the genitourinary tract.
  15. Prostate Cancer -
  16. Uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the prostate.
  17. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) -
  18. An invasion by and multiplication of disease-causing microorganisms in the urinary tract. The urinary tract includes the kidney, bladder, ureters and urethra.
