Update:
June 19
The owners of two pit bulls that killed a Leverett's Chapel boy could face criminal charges after a grand jury meets next week.
Rusk County sheriff Danny Pirtle tells CBS 19 his investigators could be through with their investigation within days.
If that holds up, it could be turned over to the district attorney's office next week.
A 10-year-old Rusk County boy is killed by a pit bull.
The boy was attacked just after 12:30 this afternoon near the intersection of County Road 133 and highway 42 in northern Rusk County.
Neighbors called police when they saw the boy being pulled by dogs, which turned out to be pit bulls.
Rusk County investigators are now trying to determine exactly how the dogs got to the boy.
Sources close to the investigation tell CBS19 the boy was riding his skateboard when the dogs attacked.
They say a passerby saw the attack and stopped to help the boy, using his own skateboard as a weapon.
Sheriff Danny Pirtle says his investigators will study the scene closely before sending the case to district attorney michael jimerson for review.
Rusk County does not have a leash law, but in the state of Texas owners are responsible for the actions of their animals.
The boy was transported to Good Shepherd in Longview and proclaimed dead by Judge B.H. Jameson.
