A 2 year old is recovering in Shreveport's LSU Medical Center after a 2 year old cousin shot him with a .22 caliber revolver.
John Lippencott at the Gun Doctor hates to hear the news out of Shelby County today. Especially when it is so easily avoided.
"This lock or any like it is provided by the Longview Police Department under Project ChildSafe free of charge for anybody in the public," Lippencott said Wednesday.
The news he hates, an unnecessary gun related injury. Timpson Police Chief Hilton Poindexter is investigating how two toddlers came to be in possession of the Ruger .22 caliber revolver.
"Two 2 year olds were in a bedroom they found the firearm and obviously began playing with it discharged striking the one little fella," Poindexter said.
The toddler was operated on in Nacogdoches before beginning post-op in Shreveport.
"Last I heard he was in stable condition at LSU-Shreveport," Poindexter added.
Lippencott says this is a sad reminder for everyone that gun locks are free and should be used.
"They can come here, I've given out a bunch of 'em free, people come in and say where do I get a lock, here have one," Lippencott noted.
What's costly is not having one.
"The big thing is nobody wants anybody unintentionally hurt, especially children."
