Record Rusk County Drug Bust

By ShaVonne Herndon

All Rusk County investigators will say is that the house where the drug bust was made is located somewhere down this stretch of County Road 166. It's where they found more than 50 thousand dollars worth of heroin, cocaine, cash, and guns.

"It's a big bust for Rusk County this has been the biggest one I've been involved with," said Sheriff Danny Pirtle. He isn't releasing the name of the 53-year-old man arrested in connection with the bust, but the man is charged with the manufacturing and trafficking of illegal drugs. "This lead from a lengthy investigation by the criminal investigation division."

Rogers Thompson lives just blocks away from where it all went down, "It shock me just then when you told me." He said he thought this was a quiet neighborhood, but he's not all that surprised. "I've been hearing about stuff going on up there anyway."

Rusk County Sheriff's Officers said the drug bust they made here on County Road 166 will lead them to other possible arrests. The stolen property that was recovered could end several theft and burglary cases.

"I'd rather not discuss which counties they've occurred in," said Pirtle. "We have information on at this time we are trying to get the rest of the property before it leaves here."
