Naked Man Leads Cops on High Speed Chase

A high speed chase causes a frightening day for drivers in East Texas. A Palestine man who was naked led cops on a chase of speeds up to 120 miles per hour through several counties.

"This is the car that almost hit us," commented witness Alana Prazak.

Alana Prazak's family was on Highway 6 in North Brazos County Sunday, when she noticed this white Cadillac too close for comfort.

"He was pushing us off the road, I mean he came within an inch of hitting us and so I jerked the car to move and that's when we realized oh, something's not right here and all the red and blue lights were coming behind us," added Prazak.

Investigators had been chasing the driver, 31-year-old Ubaldo Olvera, of Palestine, off and on, all day.

Leon County deputies say Olvera fled from them early Sunday morning when a 911 caller reported a naked man walking along the train tracks. Hours later, investigators say Olvera stole a cadillac from Marquez, and headed down Highway 79 to Robertson County, where a state trooper spotted him.

"Due to weather and safety of citizens of the state, the trooper discontinued his pursuit," stated Trooper Tommy Lyons.

DPS say Olvera continued into Brazos County, where Hearne officers and a Brazos County trooper continued the chase.

"At one point in the pursuit, he was doing 120 miles per house and passing vehicles on the shoulder," stated Trooper Lyons.

Not long after that the Brazos County trooper lost control, and wrecked near Business 6 and Highway 6.  A few minutes later, olvera made his way to College Station, and exited University, where he lost control and slid into the ditch. But he wasn't finished running.

"The southbound vehicles stopped going to help him thinking he had a wreck, then they realized he was naked and became frightened and that's when officers apprehended him," remarked Sgt. Calder Lively with the College Station Police Dept.

By 3:40 p.m. Olvera was in a vehicle again, this time in the back seat.

"He could have killed a lot of people out there the way he was driving, it was really scary," Prazak said.

The D.P.S. trooper who wrecked did not have serious injuries.

As for Olvera of Palestine, he is facing charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated and evading arrest.

His bond is set at $2,000 dollars.

But it doesn't end there, Leon County investigators say Olvera fits the description of a suspect wanted in a Jewett robbery Friday.

And they are looking to see if Olvera is connected to a string of sexual assaults in the Marquez, Texas area.
