
BEAUMONT, TX – U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced today that a 41-year-old Montgomery, Texas man has been sentenced for firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas.
Joseph Marvin Davis pleaded guilty on Feb. 19, 2009, to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced today to 100 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield.
According to information presented in court, on Jan. 24, 2008, a federal search warrant was executed at Davis' residence revealing three pistols and at least 12 rounds of ammunition. During the course of the investigation it was determined that Davis was a convicted felon and prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition. Davis had previously been convicted of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle in 1987, Burglary of a Motor Vehicle in 1989, Theft in 2002, and Burglary-Bodily Injury in 2006, all in Harris County, Texas. A federal grand jury returned an indictment on Mar. 5, 2008, charging Davis with federal firearms violations.
