
This Veteran's Day, American of all races and religions will gather in town squares, main streets, schools and auditoriums to to celebrate our armed forces and the sacrifices they've given for our daily freedom.
Several events around East Texas are on tap to honor our veterans this week - here are a few.
Veterans Luncheon
The Concerned Healthcare Association of Tyler (CHAT) will honor veterans during its "Red White & Blue" Veterans Appreciation Luncheon set for noon Wednesday at the Holiday Inn Select in Tyler.
Area veterans and their spouses are invited as guests, said Jerry Smitherman of Creative Solutions in Health-care, one of the organizers.
Those who wish to attend are asked to make reservations by calling 903-316-7128.
Smitherman said the program will include the posting of colors, an ROTC unit and a performance by the Texas College Choir.
The keynote address will be delivered by a "surprise celebrity," he said.
Chapel Hill
Chapel Hill High School's Veterans Day Assembly is set for 2:20 p.m. Wednesday in the school theater.
U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, will be the speaker.
Bell Elementary
Bell Elementary will have a Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. today in the cafeteria. Students will perform patriotic music and recognize veterans.
Griffin Elementary
Griffin Elementary will have a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the gym.
Orr Elementary
Orr will have a Veterans Day celebration Wednesday honoring veterans at 7:30 a.m. in the library and during a program in the gym at 7:45 a.m.
Caldwell Elementary
Caldwell Elementary's "Celebrate America" program is set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the gym.
Rice Elementary
Rice Elementary will honor veterans during the fourth-graders' patriotic music program at 9 a.m. today in the gym for kindergarten, second and fifth grades and 9:45 a.m. for first and third grades.
Hubbard Middle
Hubbard will have a Veterans Day program that will include a flag-raising ceremony at 8 a.m. Wednesday followed by a reception for veterans in the library.
ETCA
East Texas Christian Academy will have a Veterans Day tribute today during its chapel service. The guest speaker is state Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler.
Gorman
The Gorman student body will participate in a Veterans Day ceremony at 9:30 a.m. today in Milam Joseph Center.
Grace Community
The elementary school will put on a patriotic program for veterans at 8 a.m. today in the elementary school auditorium. A reception will follow.
La Poynor ISD
La Poynor ISD will present a Veterans Day program at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday in the school auditorium.
U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, will give the keynote address, according to information from the school.
