
Update 2: Espinal's bond was set at $5 million Tuesday afternoon. During the arraignment, Espinal's judge told Espinal she will appoint an attorney for him by the end of Tuesday.
The suspect had a Spanish interpreter present in court.
Update 1: In a press conference held in Upshur County Tuesday morning, authorities confirmed the arrest of Espinal. They also said that Espinal has been in the country illegally for the last five years, and that weapons were found in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Authorities believe that Espinal was dating a girl who is related to the Clarks, Espinal's alleged victims, and that the killings occured over that relationship.
DIKE (KYTX) - The suspect in a Gilmer double murder has been arrested.
Miguel Angel Espinal, 25, was taken into custody after a task force made up of Gilmer Police, Upshur County deputies, Sulphur Springs police investigators, Hopkins County Special Crimes unit officers, U.S. Marshals and ICE agents arrested Espina after surrounding a farmhouse in the rural Hopkins County community of Dike shortly after 11:00 pm last night.
When ordered out of the farmhouse, Espinal came out with his hands behind his head and offered no resistance.
He is accused of stabbing to death Danny Clark, 36, and his 35 year old paraplegic wife at their home in a Gilmer apartment complex.
