New London cop sniffs out meth lab

By Wilton Johnson

NEW LONDON- New London police officers are carting out the last of the evidence from an early Thursday evening drug bust. While driving down Hargis Street in New London, Captain Jason Parker sensed a meth lab was ginnin' nearby.

"Even with the windows rolled up, I noticed a strong chemical odor coming from the direction of residence," Cpt. Parker recalled.

When he approached the home, three men ran out of a shed in the backyard. Inside was a meth lab and at least 200 grams of homemade speed. Chief Paul Thompson says one man got away but arrested was Sean Berry and Jacky Berry. They appeared before Judge Bob Richardson today and arraigned on evasion and drug charges.

"It's a felony amount, enough to get someone 99 years in prison," Chief Thompson commented.

Also arrested was the homeowner and another woman in possession of false ID, believed to be used to buy Sudafed for the operation.

Although New London recently added a drug dog, Captain Parker did just fine by himself.

"It's a very distinct chemical hard to describe, I guess like ether."
