Fire destroyed a house in Hideaway, and firefighters said lightning was the cause.
Lindale Fire Chief Jerry Garner said the home's family had just arrived and gone inside their home at 229 Winged Foot Drive when a neighbor came over to tell them that lightning struck their house and it was on fire.
Flames already were shooting through the roof of the structure when firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Garner said.
Firefighters attempted to attack the flames from inside the house but moved outside when that proved unsuccessful, Garner said.
He said the house appeared to be totaled.
In addition to the Lindale Fire Department, Dixie, Mineola, Van and Red Springs fire departments assisted in the effort, Garner said.
