Everyday Gourmet: Meatloaf

In this week's Everyday Gourmet, Christine Gardner shows us a meatloaf recipe

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 cups Mom’s Meatloaf Starter (available at Sweet Gourmet)
  • USA Pans Meatloaf Pan (available at Sweet Gourmet)

In a large bowl, combine the beef and pork. Crack the egg into a measuring cup and stir in the panko breadcrumbs. Pour into the meat along with 1 1/2 cups of the meatloaf sauce. Using your hands, gently work the sauce throughout the meat. Form the meat into a large ball and press into the meatloaf pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Use an instant meat thermometer to make sure the internal temperature of the meat has reached 165 degrees. Once the meat has reached 155 degrees, baste the top of the meatloaf with the remaining 1/2 cup of meatloaf sauce.

When meatloaf has reached desired temperature, remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Lift the meatloaf out of the pan and use a spatula to slide the meatloaf onto a serving plate. Discard fat from the bottom of the meatloaf pan.
