TYLER, Texas — A Smith County jury acquitted a 23-year-old man for allegedly making a threat towards a school in East Texas.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office reported in March of 2018 Tyler McGill made a threatening message toward a school on Snapchat.

The post showed a video of several weapons in a vehicle, including rifles and handguns, with the caption "coming to a school near you."

He was arrested and charged with making a false alarm or report. He pleaded not guilty.

On Tuesday, a jury acquitted McGill.

"Tyler McGill learned a valuable lesson from this ordeal, and we agree with the jury’s verdict that Tyler’s actions in posting the video did not amount to a criminal offense,” McGill's attorney Joel Baker said.

Baker is seeking to have McGill's record expunged.
