HOUSTON – Houston’s City Hall was illuminated in blue overnight in honor of former First Lady Barbara Bush.

Flags are also flying at half-staff ahead on Thursday night’s celebration of life set to start at 6 p.m. at Hermann Square. Everyone is encouraged to wear pearls or the color blue in her memory.

Mayor Sylvester Turner and city leaders are hosting this celebration of life. A number of spiritual leaders will make remarks – plus they will have an interfaith prayer for Mrs. Bush.

Among those scheduled to perform include the Houston Children's Choir, who are a favorite of the Bush family.

The mayor has said Mrs. Bush was the matriarch of the city of Houston. And we’re definitely seeing that with the outpour of support since the former first lady’s passing.

Just across the street at Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza is where people can drop off mementos, and flowers for the former first lady. That's where they're asking that you bring those items.

Some people started leaving flowers at the family's gated neighborhood, but those have been moved to the plaza where there's more room.

There is also a public visitation Friday at St. Martin’s Church and invite-only service Saturday.
