FRISCO - The New Diana football team was in the 3rd round of the playoffs for the first time since 1995. And despite making several appearances in this round throughout their history, the Eagles had never made it past round 3.
On Thursday night, they played the only high school football playoff game in the state as they took on Jacksboro.
The New Diana offense was clicking early and they jumped out to an early 28-14 lead. The Tigers did fight back and they scored late in the 2nd quarter to tie the game at 28-28 at the half.
The 2nd half was more of the same. Both teams traded touchdowns and Jacksboro scored with 1:57 left, but missed the extra point, to take a 48-42 lead.
The Eagles put together one more impressive drive and they capped it off as Jackson Sampson threw his 6th touchdown pass of the game, hitting TJ Rogers in the endzone with 12 seconds left. That tied the game at 48...until Andy Prazak nailed the extra point.
And that was the difference as New Diana's amazing season lives to see another week. The Eagles win 49-48 and will play either Holliday or Gunter next week in the state quarterfinals.
