Some Notable History Between Longview and Waco Midway

Longview and Midway have only played twice, but they've been a couple of incredibly entertaining games.

LONGVIEW - The Longview football team has played over 1,100 games in their history. Out of those 1,100, only 2 have been against Waco Midway.

But those 2 are ingrained in the minds of Lobos fans.

In the 2008 State Quarterfinals, the two teams went to overtime. The Panthers scored first, but Longview responded with a touchdown of their own. However, the Lobos went for 2 and thanks to a good stretch by QB Aaron Johnson, Longview converted the 2 point conversion and won 43-42.

The next year (2009), the two teams met again, this time in the 2nd round of the playoffs. And again, it came down to a 2 point conversion. Midway scored late, but instead of tying the game with an extra point, they went for the win. But the Longview defense rose to the occasion and kept the Panthers out of the endzone to preserve a 14-13 win.

It's fun to look at the old video and remember the old games. But Longview head coach John King is focused on this week's showdown with Midway.

Coach King says, "Those are big plays for us, for our program, it continued our season, but we're going to have to go out Saturday and make plays this year, I mean, it doesn't matter what happened then."

The 3rd matchup between Longview and Waco Midway will kickoff at 6 PM Saturday at Eagle Stadium in Allen.
