United Airlines launches new basic economy service

TYLER - United Airlines says it will start offering basic economy fares in January for travel in March.

The new flight rates, however, do come with some restrictions.

  • Basic economy limits passengers to just one carry-on bag.
  • The services comes with no use of overhead storage bins.
  • There is no assigned seating.
  • Under no circumstances can you change your ticket.

Delta started a similar program last year also calling it basic economy.

Travel analysts say it's still the same plane, and you can still order soft drinks and have your peanuts. Airline company's are simply looking for ways to keep their profits up.
