Tyler Jr. College:
TYLER (KYTX) - Tyler Junior College and Texas Woman's University announced Thursday a dual enrollment program will allow students to pursue a bachelor's degree and an associate's degree simultaneously, without leaving Tyler.
Officials from both institutions signed agreements during a ceremony, held in the President's Conference Room, in the White Administrative Services Center, on the Main TJC campus.
The agreement will allow dental hygiene students to pursue an Associate in Applied Science and a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene simultaneously, said Carrie Hobbs, TJC department chair and professor of dental hygiene.
The agreement will become effective for fall 2014 enrollment.
Hobbs said the dental hygiene profession is "moving toward a more professional model with higher educational expectations for critical thinking and decision-making abilities. These valued learning outcomes provide a solid base for careers in leadership, service, and education in an ever-evolving oral healthcare system."
A bachelor's degree will assist graduates in advancing in their chosen career field, she said. Courses through Texas Woman's University will be delivered on site at TJC and online.
