1 arrested following Thursday morning high speed chase in Rusk

RUSK (KYTX) - A woman is arrested following a high speed chase Thursday morning in Rusk.

According to Rusk Police Chief Jamie Campbell, an officer attempted to stop a car for speeding when it bolted through a stop sign and almost hit two pedestrians.

The officer pursued the car at high speeds on Highway 69 south for about 5 miles just outside of Alto when the suspect's car turned around heading back north towards Rusk.

DPS were able to lay down a spike strip that helped in slowing the car. The suspect made it to the north side of Rusk before losing control and hitting a street sign.

The driver, identified as Jennifer Cross of Gray, Louisiana, was taken to ETMC of Jacksonville for possible injuries according to Chief Campbell.

Cross has since been released and is booked in the Cherokee County Jail.
