13-year-old girl taken into custody over online threats in Splendora

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KHOU) - A 13-year-old girl was arrested overnight after she allegedly used Facebook to make threats to take out an entire town.

Deputy constables said the girl wrote about killing every single person in Splendora.

With a little help from Facebook, investigators were able to track her down.

"Kids are gonna be kids," said Constable Kenneth Hayden with Montgomery County Precinct 4. "They're going to make mistakes. This is a very serious mistake, and we're hoping this person is gonna learn from this and be able to move on with her life."

Authorities said the girl had been staying with relatives. She's facing felony charges for making a terroristic threat.

Deputies seized several computers and other electronics from the family's home.

It was Saturday when KHOU 11 first reported that someone was posting frightening messages to kill everyone in the town of Splendora – giving the date of Sunday, July 13.

Threats were also made against a young boy in the community who is fighting cancer.

Investigators said the Facebook account used to make the threats was either fake or hacked.
