TYLER (KYTX) -Tyler firefighters responded to a house fire Wednesday morning at 2616 North Border, and were able to put the blaze out within 15 minutes.
The call was received at 11:13 a.m. with six units responding. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze containing it to the room of origin, minimizing the level of damage to the structure.
A family member is being credited for alerting others and quickly getting them out of the house. 18-year-old Kadarious Wheeler said he was in the shower when the fire started and realized what was happening. Kadarious, a John Tyler High School football player, says he acted on adrenaline, and was able to save his three young cousins and one adult from the fire.
Investigators with the Tyler Fire Marshal's Office also report moderate smoke damage was reported throughout the structure, with minimal fire damage contained in the bedroom where several unattended candles were found.
No injuries were reported.
