MT PLEASANT (KYTX) - Mount Pleasant Police Department officers respond to a residential burglary alarm in the 500 block of Relearn Ct. on Friday afternoon.
As patrol officers approached the area they observed a suspicious vehicle driving in the area. A traffic stop was made on the vehicle just off Green hill Rd on County Road 1612. When the vehicle stopped the vehicle driver fled on foot.
Officers detained two passengers from that vehicle while a ground search was conducted for the suspect that fled. During the investigation, officers located items in the suspect vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Bay City, Texas and Longview, TX. Officers also found several forms of identification including driver's license, social security cards, and other government issued documents that did not belong to anyone inside the vehicle.
Some of the stolen items found in the possession of the suspects were traced to a vehicle burglary that occurred at a residence on County Road 1612 in Titus County. Also during the investigation it was learned the driver of the vehicle may either be in possession of or had thrown out a handgun from the moving vehicle before he fled on foot. The handgun was later linked to a vehicle burglary in the 500 bilk of Green hill Park.
Although the suspect who ran was not located during the ground search officers were able to identify the driver of the vehicle as Quanta Simmons, 21 years old of Lone Star, TX. Passengers Bobby Joe Haynes, 21 years old of Lone Star, TX and a 16 year old male juvenile from Lone Star, TX were arrested at the scene based on evidence found inside the vehicle.
Mount Pleasant detectives worked most of the day gaining intelligence on Simmons and located him at a residence on Alamo St. in Lone Star. Simmons was arrested with the assistance of Lone Star PD and booked into the Morris County Jail for an arrest warrant out of Bowie County for Fail to Register as a Sex Offender.
Officers later located the stolen handgun after an extensive search of the path the suspect vehicle drove and returned the gun to its owner as well as the items taken from the vehicle burglary on County Road 1612. Additional charges related to Mount Pleasant and Titus County offenses are pending warrants being issued.
Vehicle passenger Haynes was booked into the Titus County Jail for Theft of Property $50 to $500 (Class B Misdemeanor), Fraudulent Possession of Identifying Information (State Jail Felony), Unlawful Use of Criminal Instruments (Class B Misdemeanor), Burglary of a Vehicle (Class A Misdemeanor), and Theft of a Firearm (State Jail Felony). The 16 year old Juvenile was also charged with the same offenses as Haynes and transported to the Gregg County Juvenile Detention Center in Longview.
The success of locating Simmons was made possible due to the efforts of both Mount Pleasant Police patrol officers and detectives with support and assistance from Titus County Sheriff's Office and Lone Star Police Department. All played a vital role in locating Simmons who was considered armed and dangerous.
