2 students in hospital after wreck involving TISD school bus

(KYTX) -  A school bus accident involving an SUV has sent four TISD students and the driver of the SUV to the hospital.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. at Old Omen Road and McDonald. It involved TISD school bus number 14.

Police say the crash happened when the bus driver turned left from McDonald onto Old Omen in front of the SUV.

Police say the SUV driver's injuries are serious, but they don't appear to be life threatening.

"We had one child that had facial cuts, that subject was transported, I don't have a name for that person. And three other children were also transported to be checkout, nothing that was life threatening to anyone," says Don Martin, spokesman for Tyler Police Department.

The bus driver, 66 year old Richard Pitman was given a  citation for failure to yield the right of way. There were no drugs found in his system so he'll be back at work tomorrow.
