2 trials get underway this week in Gilmer

GILMER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) — Testimony is scheduled to open in two felony trials in 115th District Court this week after juries were chosen on Monday, according to Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd's office.

The trial of Tammy Lynn Jones, charged with assault on a public servant, is set for 9 a.m. Thursday. The case of Fentin Edgar Criswell, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, opens at 9 a.m. Wednesday, a spokeswoman for Byrd said.

Ms. Jones, 48, of Gladewater, is charged with assaulting Upshur County Sheriff's Deputy James Gillen on July 7, 2012. Criswell, 63, of Ore City, is charged with assaulting Jerry Britton on Dec. 12, the spokeswoman said.

Longview attorney Clifton (Scrappy) Holmes represents Ms. Jones, while Gilmer attorney Brandon Winn represents Criswell. District Judge Lauren Parish is presiding in both cases.
