27 honored at Peace Officer's Memorial

Local police, deputies and troopers remembered their fallen brothers and sisters in law enforcement Thursday.

The annual Peace Officer's Memorial was held at Tyler's downtown square. The ceremony honored 13 people killed around the state of Texas since may of last year.

There were another 14 remembered who have died serving Smith County over the years.

"It's important to all the brothers and sisters of law enforcement that we let the families know they have not been forgotten," Tyler Police Officer Don Martin said. "They paid the ultimate price. And this is just a way to pay tribute to them."

Tyler police officers gave one final rifle salute to the fallen. After that there was an extended moment of reflection accompanied by the playing of taps.
