A man was seriously injured Wednesday morning while attempting to assist his wife after her truck ran out of gas.
The wreck occurred on Highway 80 in White Oak when a woman's pickup stopped in the eastbound lane of traffic.
"The pickup was out of gas, and it stopped in the right lane. There was a curb there, so there was no shoulder," said DPS Trooper Bobby Dean in Longview.
Dean said the woman's husband came to assist her, parking in front of her vehicle. While between the two vehicles, another vehicle hit the pickup from behind.
"He wasn't pinned because the cars separated after impact," Dean said.
The man was flown to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler with serious injuries, and the woman and driver of the third vehicle were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.
Traffic was temporarily slowed along the highway while crews worked to clear the scene.
Names have not yet been released.
