(FROM KILGORE POLICE DEPARTMENT) - The Kilgore Police Department will have additional officers working from June 27th to July 7thas part of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program(STEP) encompassing the 4th of July holiday.
In an effort to save lives and reduce vehicle crashes the department will focus on Speed and DWI enforcement. Independence Day historically ranks as one of the deadliest holiday periods for Texas roadways due to alcohol related crashes. If you choose to drink and drive, within the City of Kilgore, you will go to jail. The Kilgore Police Department maintains a zero tolerance policy in regards to DWI enforcement. Drunk driving is not a choice it's a crime. During the STEP wave, KPD will also practice "No Refusal." This means if you are stopped for drunk driving and refuse to provide a blood or breathe specimen, an immediate search warrant will be sought and a blood specimen obtained through the warrant.
The Kilgore Police Department wants everyone to have a safe and fun 4th of July Holiday. The safety of our citizens and community is paramount. Let's all slow down and don't drink and drive!
