(CNN) - A strong aftershock hit the Chilean coast Wednesday evening.
This comes in the wake of Tuesday's deadly earth tremor that killed 6. The aftershock was rated at a magnitude of 7.6. Local people were evacuated from their homes, in line with well-established earthquake drills.
Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, who toured the region Wednesday, praised local authorities for responding in an "exemplary manner" to a powerful earthquake and the tsunami that followed.
Chile is one of the world's most volatile areas for seismic activity.
