80th Texas Rose Festival Kicks Off

TYLER (KYTX) - This year's Rose Queen, Rachel Vanderpool Clyde, officially opened the start of the 2013 Texas Rose Festival during a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday at the Tyler Rose Garden.

The 80th annual event , "Raindrops on Roses … and other favorite things" takes place Oct. 17-19.

Miss Clyde's Coronation is set for Friday, October 18 at 7 p.m. at the UT Tyler Cowan Center.

The Queen's Tea is set for Saturday October 19 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the Rose Garden and the annual Rose Parade will be held Saturday October 19 at 9 a.m. 

There is free parade viewing along the route which starts at the intersection of Glenwood and Front Streets in Tyler. You can also see the parade on KYTX CBS 19.

Seats are also available on the west side of Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

The entire rose season of October 2012 had an economic impact of $2.4 million.

Last year the rose festival brought in more than 77,000 visitors to Tyler.
