87 grams of meth discovered in child's toy, Nacogdoches couple jailed

NACOGDOCHES CO. (KYTX) - An East Texas couple is jailed after deputies discovered drugs inside a child's toy.

The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's office reports the man and wife were arrested following a traffic stop on highway 59 south where deputies seized crystal methamphetamine worth over $9,000.00 dollars Thursday afternoon.

Deputies with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office stopped a white passenger car for a traffic violation on highway 59.

Deputies observed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle upon contact with the driver who told deputies that marijuana had been recently smoked inside the vehicle.

Deputies further observed a three year old child sitting in the back seat that was not secured by a safety belt.

Deputies obtained consent to search the motor vehicle due to both subjects being nervous and giving conflicting statements about their trip to Nacogdoches. Deputies located 87 grams of crystal methamphetamine found near the child that was concealed inside a toy.

44-year-old Rene Tamez and 28-year-old Anna Tamez 38 were arrested at the scene and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.

The couple was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance a 2nd felony and Endangering a Child a state jail felony.

Rene Tamez was currently on parole at the time of his arrest and a parole warrant was issued for his arrest on Friday June 27, 2014. He was served with the additional charge at the Nacogdoches County Jail.

The three year old child has been turned over to Child Protective Services.

Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that we have a strong belief that these drugs were being transported to Nacogdoches County to be distributed on our streets and we will continue to investigate to identify the distributor here in Nacogdoches County.
