Tyler (KYTX) -- After celebrating its 25th anniversary, the East Texas Food Bank is doling out more meals than ever before.
We're taking a closer look at that help, talking to someone who visits a food pantry every couple of months.
"Without the assistance of food stamps and this place, we wouldn't be able to make it," Lisa Morgan, a recipient at St. Paul Children's Foundation, said.
With a husband and 3 kids at home, she explains the hardship her family goes through to make ends meet.
"My physician has informed me that I'm no longer able to work. My husband is retired and we live on $1258 a month, which doesn't go very far," Morgan said.
Her story shows hunger can be the senior across the street or kids next door.
"It's not something that you can always see," Michael Hetrick, Online Communications Manager for ETFB, said.
Since opening their doors 25 years ago, Hetrick says they are taking in more clients and don't see it slowing down.
"At the end of 1988, we did approximately about 140,000 meals. That number is now, 25 years later, 14 million meals a year," Hetrick said.
200 agencies in East Texas directly benefit from the Food Bank, most of which are faith-based organizations.
As long as those doors stay open, people like Morgan say they don't have to worry where their next meal is coming from.
"Anything that we need they have always been here for us," Morgan said.
Brookshires, Cathy Schreiber, and the Roosth family were awarded Thursday night for supporting the ETFB over the past 25 years.
