Amber Alert issued in southwest Houston for baby allegedly taken by mom's boyfriend

HOUSTON (KHOU) -- Police in southwest Houston issued an Amber Alert early Tuesday after a four-month-old girl was allegedly abducted by her mom's boyfriend.

The boyfriend has been identified as Byron Earl Gee, a convicted criminal.

According to the Houston Police Department, Gee took little Stephanie Lavette Phillips from an apartment complex in the 6400 block of W. Bellfort around 4:30 a.m. The Amber Alert was issued shortly before 7 a.m.

The baby is African-American and was wearing only a white t-shirt and diaper.

Police said Gee was driving a stolen white 1999 Ford Expedition. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and  was last seen wearing black pants, a black shirt and no shoes.

Police said Gee is not the child's biological father.

The SUV Gee is driving was stolen from a neighboring apartment complex, according to police. Its license plate is DK3N645.

According to records, Gee has been convicted of two felonies and three misdemeanors since 2001.
