American Red Cross East Texas:
EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - In the past month, the nation has been rocked with a number of catastrophic events beginning with the Boston Marathon bombing, the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas, a deadly tornado outbreak across North Texas, a 6-Alarm apartment fire that claimed the life of a Dallas firefighter and displaced hundreds of residents and most recently, the horrific tornado outbreak in Moore, Oklahoma.
With each disaster, community members want to know what to do to help. As the nation's leading disaster responder, the American Red Cross has tremendous experience in disaster relief which is why the organization seeks financial contributions to support families after tragedies such as these. Cash gifts allow the Red Cross to purchase what's needed from the local or surrounding areas. This helps to boost the economic base in devastated communities. Cash gifts are also easy to transport. They don't clog up roadways and don't require warehouse space. Cash allows the Red Cross to purchase items in bulk, on pallets and shrink wrapped for transport.
Today, the American Red Cross is asking for financial support. People not only in Oklahoma, but our neighbors still clearing debris after last week's storms and fire victims only at the first step of their recovery, need help too. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10. Click on www.redcross.org to give more, or call 1-800-REDCROSS. The Red Cross is asking North Texans who are not affected by recent disasters to give to Disaster Relief so that victims of any disaster have the help they need right away.
With the Metroplex area and East Texas staring down the barrel of another potentially dangerous weather day, we don't know how many people could need the Red Cross at the end of this day too.
