Anderson Co officials investigate death of inmate

UPDATE: PALESTINE ( KYKX) - Anderson County Sheriff officials have identified the name of the jail inmate who was found unresponsive on September 19, 2013.

Tommy Glenn Jones, 64, was being held on a criminal trespass charge. He was arrested and booked into jail on 9/17/13 and charged with Criminal Trespass.

According to Sheriff Greg Taylor, jailers found the man lying face down in his cell and unresponsive at about 3:30 p.m.

"They attempted CPR and took him to Palestine Regional Medical Center for treatment," Taylor said. "He was pronounced dead there at the hospital."

Officials could not release the name of the inmate as next-of-kin have not yet been notified. The cause of the man's death is unknown at this time, the sheriff reported.

"We do not suspect any foul play," Taylor said. "He was an older man in a single cell."

Anderson County law enforcement officials and Texas Rangers are investigating the death. An autopsy has been ordered to help determine the exact cause of death.
