TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH (KYTX) - A prison supervisor in Anderson County faces criminal charges tonight after a standoff with authorities.
39-year-old Elton Sims was taken into custody after law officers responded to a 9-1-1 call for help by his wife.
Joining us with more is Danny Mogle from our news partners at the Tyler paper.
Danny we understand that it was a tense situation before Sims surrendered.
Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor says that at one point, Sims came outside with a gun, fired shots into the air and made threats.
His co-workers in the prison system who arrived on the scene were able to convince him to put his gun down …. and ultimately it ended with no one getting hurt.
And this all began with a 9-1-1 call.
Sims wife called 9-1-1 for help at 3 a.m. in the morning on Sunday. She told the 9-1-1 operator that he had hit her and that he had a gun.
We are told that during that 9-1-1 call Sims took the phone from his wife. Of course authorities responded as quickly as they could.
What was Sims charged with?
He was booked into the Anderson County Jail and charged with ….
-- aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
-- deadly conduct
-- and interfering with a 9-1-1 call.
He also has been barred from his job at the prison system until further notice.
