Arrest affidavit reveals new details in fatal shooting of Tyler woman

TYLER (KYTX) - We're learning more about the shooting death of Jelena Sriraman.  Her ex-husband, James Calvert, is accused of fatally shooting her and kidnapping their 4-year-old son Wednesday from a Tyler home.

In the arrest affidavit, investigators say there is evidence that Calvert forced his way into his ex-wife's home.

Police found Jelena's body laying in the doorway with half of her body inside the home and the other half in the carport.  There were also several shell casings from a gun on the floor near her body. There was blood around her head.

A witness told police she saw Calvert walk from the home, carrying 4-year-old Lucas Calvert in his arms.

The arrest affidavit has a paragraph devoted to an interview with one of Jelena's friends who was at the house, just minutes before the shooting. The friend told investigators she received a call from Jelena and Jelena told her Calvert had called yelling and cursing.

The friend said Calvert's first wife was in the process of having him served with some type of court papers.

The affidavit says Jelena told her friend Calvert was upset with her because he thought she was trying to set him up to be served with the papers.

Jelena told her friend she was going to leave the house in case he came there to try to pick the kids up.

The arrest affidavit says they did they have an agreement that he would pick up the kids that day at another location.

Jelena was planning to pick her daughter up from Andy Woods Elementary, just a few blocks away after school was over. But, police said James Calvert arrived before she could leave.
