SULPHUR SPRINGS (CBSDFW.COM) - The two prisoners who broke out of the Hopkins County Jail on Tuesday morning are still on the loose as of Thursday morning. Authorities in the Sulphur Springs area have now expanded the search for Brian Tucker and John King.
The manhunt widened on Wednesday after a homeowner in Sulphur Springs said that her vehicle disappeared. Authorities believe that it could have been stolen by those escapees. The vehicle is a black 2010 Saturn Vue, and it was taken from a home about two miles away from the prison. Officials with the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department said that a pistol was inside.
So, if the escapees did taken this vehicle, then they are now armed and on the move.
Tucker has been charged with capital murder for allegedly killing a man with a shoelace. King was recently sentenced to 40 years in jail for drug and burglary charges. "Running from being incarcerated a lengthy period of time. The death penalty. These individuals have a mindset of a ticking time bomb," explained Sgt. Brad Cummings with the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department. "You don't know what someone in that situation is thinking of doing."
Law enforcement agencies from several Texas counties are involved in the manhunt. Officials said that they are responding to every tip very quickly, but there have been no verified sightings of either man so far. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the location of the two escapees.
