Baby rescued from middle of the road on Farm-to-Market Road 14

SMITH COUNTY (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - The actions of two men this morning led to the rescue of a baby in a major roadway and the discovery of the child's grandmother unconscious in her home.

Smith County Sheriff's Lt. Larry Wiginton said the incident is ongoing on Farm-to-Market Road 14.
"The two men were driving down the road and saw the baby in the middle of the road and they stopped and called us. They then got the baby and kept it safe until we got there," he said.

Wiginton said as deputies arrived on scene, neighbors were able to lead them to a house where the child's grandmother lives.

Wiginton said the child's mother had gone to work and left the child with the grandmother.

As deputies entered the home they found the grandmother unconscious on the floor.

"We are still trying to figure out how the baby got out of the house, but apparently the grandmother has some type of seizure disorder," he said.
