Bomb threat causes North Texas energy plant evacuation

WISE COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – A large natural gas plant in Wise County has been evacuated. The action was taken after the plant received a bomb threat.

Just after 8:30 a.m. the Wise County Sheriff's Office was contacted by security at Devon Energy. The plant is located along US Highway 380, just west of Bridgeport.

Captain Kevin Benton, with the Wise County Sheriff's Office, said, "Essentially what we discovered was in a work area there was a note, a generic note left, that stated there could be a bomb on the property."

The plant was already in the process of being evacuated when the emergency call was made, but Sheriff's sent officers, fire department bomb experts, and other first responders to the scene.

Officials are still at the plant investigating, but say there is no danger or threat to the public. In addition to searching the plant, investigators are also reviewing security camera video.

As a precaution, Sheriff's have closed the intersections of FM 1658 & Hwy 380 and County Road 3504 & Highway 380.
