Bond reduced for Rusk County man accused of scalding five-year-old child

HENDERSON/RUSK COUNTY (KYTX) - Rusk County District Judge Clay Gossett reduced bond Wednesday for a Tatum man accused of scalding a five-year-old boy nearly one month ago.

Travis Darnell MacAlister, 28, was initially arraigned on $1 million bond after he was arrested July 12 on a charge of injury to a child. On Wednesday, Gossett ordered the bond reduced to $150,000. MacAlister remains in the Rusk County Jail tonight.

According to the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, personnel with the Good Shepherd Medical Center emergency room in Longview contacted investigators July 11, after a five-year-old patient was brought in with burns to his bottom from a reported assault. An arrest warrant was later issued for MacAlister, who was taken into custody the following day.

His initial bond was set by a Rusk County justice of the peace.
