Caddo Commission vote to not talk about Duck Commander Independence Bowl money

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) - The Caddo Commission discussed the money it gave to the Duck Commander Independence Bowl Monday afternoon.

Commissioner Kenneth Epperson brought forward a resolution to oppose those funds and even ask the I-bowl to voluntarily return the $65,000 it received from the parish.

Ultimately, the commission voted 6-3 not to move the resolution forward.

David Cox says he understands it's a sensitive subject but the agreement the Parish has with the Independence bowl and the bowl with Duck Commander is strictly business. Phil Robertson is just one part of the duck commander brand, he said.

Commissioner Lindora Baker suggested the commission bring it up again when they talk about next years budget.

Something Commissioner Jerald Bowman told me he'd be open to at a later time.

"We've already committed," said Bowman. "It's too late to pull out. If it's something that bad, let's looking into the future for the next time around. But right now, I've got to stand and support the I-Bowl in this 2014 year."

Commissioner Epperson said after the meeting the commission voted with their convictions and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. He said he will take the stance anytime giving money to the duck commander independence bowl is discussed.

The Duck Commander Independence Bowl did not want to comment on this resolution.
