Calls pouring into 911 center for adopting pets

TYLER (KYTX) - The smith county sheriff's office reports being inundated with calls about stray dogs and adoption.

Reps say they traced it back to some misinformation being posted on a facebook animal support group page--claiming a massive number of dogs were to be euthanized this week.
As a result, a flood of calls came into the dispatch center--which is only for emergencies.

"It tied up our 911 center and so people who had real emergencies it was tying up the phone lines and we weren't able to talk to them because people were calling about dogs on some information that was wrong in the first place"

The sheriff's office wants to clarify to contact the smith county humane society to adopt a pet.

Also to solve the bigger issue of too many animals in smith county-- they're urging owners to spay and neuter your pets.
