Candlelight vigil being held for teenager that died in Cedar Creek Lake accident

EUSTACE (KYTX) - A teenager passed away after a lake accident on Thursday night.

Erik Rhodes, 15, was among friends and family when he jumped off a second story dock on Cedar Creek Lake in the Timber Bay division. 

Witnesses say Rhodes was unresponsive when he resurfaced after jumping off the dock and they immediately called for help.

Chief Deputy Botie Hillouse with the Henderson County Sheriff's Department says that Rhodes was taken the ETMC in Gun Barrel City and then transferred to ETMC in Tyler where he passed away.

According to the Eustace High School Facebook page a candle light vigil is being held in the high school parking lot at 6 p.m. on Saturday night.

The page reads: 

"Okay Eustace. Services for young Erik Rhodes have been decided and announced by his sister Amanda Rhodes. His viewing will be at 12pm this Sunday, and his funeral services will be at 2pm that same day at the Moorehead Eeps Funeral Home. Everyone come and support the family in this great time of pain and grief. A candlelight vigil is also being held Saturday night at 6pm in the High School parking lot. Bring candles."

According to Henderson County Now's obituary, Rhodes visitation is being held on Sunday at noon at Moorhead Epps Chapel. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday and a burial will follow at Moorhead Melton Cemetery in Eustace.
