Cause of apartment fire in Tyler under investigation

News Release Tyler Fire Department:

UPDATE: Tyler firefighters have successfully extinguished the fire at the Kensington Place Apartments, located at 4400 Paluxy Dr.  The initial call was received at 1:21 p.m., with the caller reporting smoke coming from the walls of the apartment.  Incident commanders have recently reported the fire under control, and emergency units are beginning to clear the scene.

Firefighters arriving on the scene noted a working structure fire, with heavy smoke conditions around the building.  A total of ten fire department units were dispatched to the two-alarm fire.

Occupants from four apartment units were displaced as a result of the fire.  The American Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to those affected by the incident.  No injuries have been reported. However, a small pet was resuscitated by firefighters utilizing specialized air masks carried on the fire department's emergency vehicles.

While the incident remains under investigation, fire investigators believe the fire originated in the wall space between two downstairs apartments.  Investigators with the Tyler Fire Marshal's Office are currently on the scene. Further details will be released as they become available.
