GILMER (KYTX) - A player that filled the stat sheets on the grid iron also filled the hearts of his teammates and family. Pollard's older brother G.J. Kinne is a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Pollard was spending the weekend at Kinne's house just outside of Dallas. They began to play a game of basketball when Desmond went down. It's a sight Kinne says he will never forget.
"Prayer, get in your bible, and be around the people you love. These kids wanted to be together."
Gilmer Buckeye players joined Pollard's adopted family to remember Desmond. Pollard's teammates shared their favorite moments on and off the field.
"You will see all these posts on social media how much everyone loved Desmond. They talk about how happy he made them. Desmond could brighten up their day by just telling a story."
Pollard was just 17 years old. The junior was being recruited by several big 12 and sec schools. A career cut short by tragedy.
"I have been around a lot of football in my life, and I truly believe that Desmond was the best receiver Texas has ever seen."
His service will be held at 2 PM Saturday at First Baptist Church of Gilmer
