CBS 19 Investigates: Changes help bust K2 users, sellers

It's happening slowly, but evolving and improving laws in the U.S. are helping East Texas law enforcement officers in the fight against synthetic marijuana.

The Tyler Police Department's undercover drug unit has seen an increase in its ability to push cases through to prosecution.

"We're still handling those and our officers are still taking cases and dealing with individuals that are using, smoking and buying synthetic cannabinoids," one of the undercover officers said. "Some things that are maybe illegal by federal law aren't covered in the state law so we work with the Drug Enforcement Administration and our federal agencies to look at prosecution federally or at a state level when we're able to recover synthetic cannabinoids or we're able to get these guys who are selling these cannabinoids to our citizens."
