CHANDLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - A Chandler couple has been indicted by a Henderson County grand jury on multiple counts of felony fraud after the two allegedly stole thousands from victims from East Texas and Dallas.
Athens Police Cpl. James Bonnette said he began working the case against 37-year-old Wanda Cannon Andrews and 33-year-old Ryan Gregory Lee in 2012 when victims started complaining their mail had been stolen. But as the case developed, it morphed into a case of fraudulent use of identifying information in which Lee and Ms. Andrews are accused of using victims' information to obtain credit cards and other lines of credit.
"After they stole the information they began opening lines of credit using the victims' information. Because they were stealing mail from the victims, we worked with the U.S. Postal Service on cases all over our county, Smith County, Dallas and across East Texas," he said.
Bonnette said since the couple's arrests last year he has been asked to look into similar cases in the Rockwall area.
"I have heard Smith County is working several (similar) cases … and I have even gotten calls from Louisiana," he said.
Bonnette said Henderson County indicted the couple, but he believed federal prosecutors would take over the case so they could be tried in the federal court.
Records from Henderson County show the couple has been arrested several times by various agencies on a litany of charges.
Ms. Andrews has been indicted on seven counts of fraudulent use or possession of identifying information and two counts of forgery of a financial document or forgery of a governmental document.
Lee has been indicted on eight counts of fraudulent use or possession of identifying information.
